Keanekaragaman Potensi Tumbuhan Berguna Di Arboretum Universitas Riau
ABSTRACT
The Arboretum at Riau University serves as a vital repository of living trees within the remaining secondary forest in Pekanbaru, providing an ideal environment for learning, practice, and research. Plants are not only a fundamental source of food and metabolic energy for animals but also offer a plethora of valuable products to humans, including wood, fibers, medicinal materials, oils, latex, pigments, and resins. This study aims to identify and analyze the potential and diversity of beneficial plants within the Arboretum area of Riau University. Data collection involved direct field observations and literature studies, utilizing the transect method for sampling. Quantitative descriptive analysis was employed to analyze the data. The study identified 34 families of beneficial plants in the Arboretum, with the Moraceae family exhibiting the highest species composition. Among the 75 species identified, 34 families were found to have known practical uses. Notably, medicinal plants constituted the most frequently encountered group, with 27 species belonging to 21 families.
