ABSTRACT
Forest areas converted to cultivation and agriculture are increasing day by day, causing forests to experience deforestation, degradation, and a decline in forest ecosystems. So efforts are needed to restore the ecosystem through reforestation. Plants for the success of these efforts are Swietenia mahagoni. Swietenia mahagoni can grow in various places and types of soil. The growth of Swietenia mahagoni seedlings requires several factors, one of which is soil nutrients. If planting on infertile soil such as Ultisol soil, requires efforts to increase soil productivity by adding organic matter such as palm ashes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect and the best composition of planting media mixed with ultisol and palm ash to stimulate the growth of Swietenia mahagoni seedlings. The study used a completely randomized design, consisting of 5 treatments and 5 replications. The composition of the planting medium tested was A1 = 100% Ultisol soil, A2 = 90% Ultisol soil + 10% palm ashes, A3 = 80% Ultisol soil + 20% palm ashes, A4 = 70% Ultisol soil + 30% palm ashes %, A5 = 60% Ultisol soil + 40% palm ashes. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS 26.0. Application of palm ashes to Ultisol planting media affected the growth of Swietenia mahagoni seedlings. Composition A2 (90% Ultisol soil + 10% palm ashes) showed the best treatment with a height growth of 4.20 cm, diameter of 1.46 mm, survival rate of 100%, plant dry weight of 3.10, and root shoot ratio of 5.73.
