Background : COVID-19 is a respiratory infection disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus which is characterized by its rapid spread and deadly human-to-human transmission which has become a global problem. Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2 DM) is one of the factors that can exacerbate the situation and can even cause death in COVID-19 patients because it can reduce immune function.
Objective : To determine the relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus and the severity of confirmed COVID-19 patients at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province, March 2020 - March 2022.
Methods : This study is an analytic observational study with a retrospective approach. The type of research used is quantitative research with a cross-sectional research design with chi-square analysis test.
Results : The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between Type 2 DM and the severity of COVID-19 with a p value
