ABSTRACT
Power factor improvement is one of the most important efforts in optimizing energy efficiency in electrical systems. A low power factor can result in reactive power losses and an inefficient increase in energy consumption. Therefore, power factor improvement is a necessary step to reduce energy costs and improve system performance. In performing power factor improvement, a thorough analysis of the system is conducted to identify the loads that cause low power factor. Improvement methods that can be applied include the use of capacitors. Proper capacitor selection and correct installation are important factors in power factor improvement. In addition, continuous power factor monitoring, periodic maintenance, and staff training are important steps to ensure optimal performance. During the power factor improvement process, monitoring of overall energy consumption is also important to identify potential for greater energy savings. Effective power factor improvement can result in increased energy efficiency, reduced reactive power losses, and operational cost savings in the electricity system. Awareness of the importance of power factor improvement and implementation of appropriate measures will bring long-term benefits to energy users.
