Corona Virus Disease-2019 is a new infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 and
attacks the human respiratory system. D-dimer is a protein derived from the
degradation of fibrin by plasmin formed by the action of three enzymes namely
thrombin, factor XIIIa and plasmin. D-dimer is one of the hemostasis examinations
that is useful for knowing the condition of thrombosis, monitoring coagulopathy,
determining the severity of the disease and prognosis in COVID-19 patients. The
purpose of this study is to determine the comparison of D-dimer levels in COVID-
19 patients based on the severity of the disease treated at Arifin Achmad Hospital
for the period January - December 2021. The research design used was analytical
observational with a cross-sectional study design with the number of samples
obtained was 240. The results showed that the characteristics of COVID-19
patients were mostly male (52.1%), with the highest age of 56-65 years (29.2%)
and had the most comorbidities of hypertension (23.2%). The description of Ddimer
levels based on disease severity in COVID-19 patients with mild disease
severity (0.1-1.5 mg/L) with a median of 0.3 mg/L, moderate (0.1-3.7 mg/L) with a
median of 0.5 mg/L, severe (0.31-2.50 mg/L) with a median of 1.17 mg/L, and (0.37-
4.30 mg/L) with a median of 1.80 mg/L. Based on statistical tests using the Kruskall
Wallis test related to differences in D-dimer levels based on disease severity showed
statistical test results (p=0.001). From the statistical test results, it was found that
there was a significant difference between D-dimer levels at each disease severity
level.
