CORRELATION BETWEEN SELF-CONCEPT AND INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION IN PRECLINICAL STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE RIAU UNIVERSITY

Interpersonal communication is communication that occurs face-to-face between two or more people, which is carried out personally or in groups. Communication is important for a doctor related to health information provided to patients. Self-concept is one of the factors that influence interpersonal communication, where someone with a positive self-concept will be able to issue opinions, ideas, or ideas to other people. This study aims to determine the level of self-concept, the level of interpersonal communication, and the relationship between self-concept and interpersonal communication in pre-clinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau. The research design is an analytic observational with a cross-sectional approach which was carried out from November 2022 to January 2023. This study used a sample of 328 respondents by filling out a questionnaire via the Google form. The results showed that students with good interpersonal communication had a positive self-concept of 99 people (75,6%), while students with good interpersonal communication had a negative self-concept of 56 people (28,4%). Based on the results of statistical tests using Chi-Square, the results showed that there was a significant relationship between self-concept and interpersonal communication in pre-clinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau (p value = 0.000).
