Lateral inguinal hernia is a hernia located in the inguinal region through the lateral internal inguinal ring to the inferior epigastric vessels and down to inguinal canal through the external inguinal ring. Inguinal hernia in children is the most common case in pediatric surgery. Lateral inguinal hernia can occur due to several factors, some of which are premature birth, gender, family history of inguinal hernia and increased intra-abdominal pressure. This study was conducted to determine the risk factors profile of inguinal lateral hernia in pediatric patients at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province, for the period 2017-2021. This study design is a retrospective descriptive with a cross sectional approach. The study was conducted using the total sampling method and obtained 52 samples who met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that the risk factor for premature birth was 23.1% and the majority of patients were male (92.3%). There were 7.7% patients who had a family history, while patients who had a increased intra-abdominal pressure were 46.2%.
