Epilepsy is one of the most common causes of morbidity in the nervous system of children, causing problems such as learning difficulties, developmental disorders, and disruption of the quality of life of children. Epilepsy has three categories of seizures, they are focal seizures, generalized seizures and unclassified seizures. The study aims to find out the characteristics of epilepsy in children's patients at the Arifin Achmad General Hospital of Riau Province in the period 2018–2021. The type of research conducted is descriptive-retrospective with a cross-sectional design. The data used came from the medical records of children with epilepsy who were treated in the inpatient room of Arifin Achmad General Hospital of Riau Province for the period 2018–2021. There were 64 cases of children with epilepsy. The number of cases was high in the 0–5 age group (56,2%), more common in males (60,9%), without a family history of epilepsy (89,1%). The type of seizure was 55,2% generalized. The most common therapy given was valproic acid (17,2%) a combination of luminal and valproic acid (20,3%) and 17,2% diagnosed with cerebral palsy. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the most epileptics are aged 0–5 years, are male, and have no history of epilepsy in the family. The type of generalized seizure with the most management of valproic acid and with diagnosed cerebral palsy.
