Background : COVID-19 can attack anyone regardless of age, comorbid conditions, and gender, including pregnant women. Pregnant women have a higher risk for more severe disease, morbidity and mortality when compared to the general population. This is due to changes in the immune response. The impact on pregnancies with COVID-19 is the occurrence of hematological changes in the form of anemia, thrombocytopenia and leukocytosis, which especially occur in developing countries. The hematological profile depends on the degree of severity of the patient being infected with COVID-19.
Objective : to determine the association between platelet levels and the severity of COVID-19 in pregnant women at Arifin Achmad Riau Hospital Province for the period 1 January 2020 – 31 December 2022.
Methods : The research method is a retrospective analytical study. The total number of research samples is 33 individuals. Platelet levels is an independent variable, while the severity of COVID-19 is the dependent variable.
Results : The bivariate analysis results indicate that there is no relationship between platelets levels and the severity of COVID-19 in pregnant women with a with a p-value > 0.05, which is 0,872..
Conclusion : Platelet levels is not related to the severity of COVID-19 in pregnant women at Arifin Achmad Hospital.
