OVERVIEW OF HIRSCHSPRUNG DISEASE PATIENTS AND SURGICAL TECHNIQUES AT ARIFIN ACHMAD HOSPITAL IN 2020-2022

Hirschsprung Disease is a congenital disease characterized by the loss of ganglion cells in the myenteric plexus and submucosal plexus in the distal intestine. The worldwide incidence of Hirschsprung Disease is 1:1,500 to 1:7,000 live births. Definitive management of Hirschsprung's Disease is a surgical procedure that can be performed in one or multiple stages. The Common operating procedures are the Swenson procedure, Duhamel procedure, and Soave procedure. This study aimed to discover the description of Hirschsprung Disease patients and their surgical techniques at Arifin Achmad Hospital in 2020 – 2022. This study was a descriptive study with cross-sectional approach and sample size of 45 patients. The results showed that the number of patients diagnosed with Hirschsprung Disease was 65. The incidence of Hirschsprung Disease at Arifin Achmad Hospital was 1:6650 live births. Most age group was the > 12 months group, 18 patients (40.0%). Most gender is male, 32 patients (71.1%). The most classified Hirschsprung Disease was Recto-sigmoid Aganglionisis, 44 cases (97.8%). Most surgical techniques were one-stage, 24 cases (53.3%). The most operative procedure was the Duhamel Procedure, 21 cases (46.7%). The most common one-stage operation in patients with age group ≤ 1 month and > 12 months. The most multi-stage operations in patients in the age group> 12 months. Most patients with Recto-sigmoid Aganglionisis underwent a one-stage operation technique, and Long-Segment Aganglionisis performed multi-stage surgery. Swenson Procedure and Soave Procedure commonly with one-stage surgical technique and the Duhamel Procedure most common with multi stage surgical technique.
