Abstract
Indramayu is an area with the largest level of fishery production contribution among other regions in the coastal area of the northern part of West Java Province. Catching crabs can be done using several fishing gears, namely rakang-rakang (stick dip nets), crab nets (crab nets), and traps (traps). Bait is a form of stimulation (stimulant) that is physical and chemical in nature which can cause a response for crabs to come to where the bait is, these crabs usually rely on their olfactory system to look for food. Smell is an important sense that plays a role in the feeding behavior of mangrove crabs. The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is an average difference in mud crab catches and to determine the type of bait that is effective and the most preferred in mud crab catches. The method used in this study is the Experimental Fishing method. Data collection used an experimental design with a randomized block design (RBD) model. Randomized block design is a design for field experiments (fied- experiments), which is used when the experimental units are heterogeneous. After the data is collected, the next step is to analyze the data obtained, while the analysis used is ANOVA technique. The results showed that the average catch using eel and tilapia was different, while the average catch for other fish was the same. Thus, the catch variable of mangrove crabs has a significant effect on the difference in the average catch on tilapia and eel bait types.
