ABSTRACT
Fish bait plays an important role in increasing the effectiveness of fishing in public waters. The purpose of this study was to see the best live fish bait for longline fishing gear from two types of bait, namely trout (trichogaster sp.) and monitor fish (rasbora argyrotaenia) in the Muara Nikum Rambah Hilir river, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau. This research method used an experiment with longline fishing gear for 10 days at night. The results of this study indicated that the difference in longline catches using monitor fish bait (Rasbora argyrotaenia) totaled 23 individuals with a total weight of 8.42 kg with an average hook rate of 2.3%. Meanwhile, the catch of sepat fish (Trichogaster sp.) was 22 individuals, with a total weight of 15.51 kg with an average hook rate of 2.2%. Statistical analysis showed that the different types of bait had a significantly different effect on the number (heads) caught by the longline (Mini Long line) in the Muara Nikum River.
