Implementasi Strategi Konservasi Gajah Sumatera (Elephas Maximus Sumatranus Temminck.) Di Taman Nasional Tesso Nilo
ABSTRACT
Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus Temminck.) a conservation strategy that has been formed and implemented needs to be observed. Observation of the implementation of conservation strategies is carried out in order to determine the extent to which the form of the strategy affects the conservation goals of Sumatran elephants in Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN). This study aims to determine the implementation and constraints of the Sumatran elephant conservation strategy in TNTN, and also aims to formulate alternative priority strategies. This research was conducted in TNTN, Ukui District, Pelalawan Regency. In this study, data were obtained through interviews using a sampling method, namely purposive sampling, in addition to indirect observation and review of related documents, followed by analysis of the formulation of alternative priority strategies using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The results obtained showed that the Sumatran elephant conservation strategy in TNTN in 2022 which was maximally implemented included mitigation of elephant and human conflicts, for the animal monitoring strategy was carried out but not maximized because elephant monitoring was not carried out, besides that the ecosystem recovery strategy and elephant clinic had not been implemented. The constraints faced were inadequate budget so that the elephant conservation strategy had to be revised. The results of the AHP analysis obtained three alternative main priority strategies; 1) optimizing law enforcement against encroachment and poaching, 2) planting elephant food, 3) conducting counseling on elephant conservation to the community.
Key words: Conservation strategy, implemented, sumatran elephant, TNTN.
