Prarancangan Pabrik Polyethylene Terephthalate (Pet) Dari Etilen Glikol Dan Asam Tereftalat Proses Direct Esterifikasi Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Esterifikasi 1 (R-101)
ABSTRACT
Polyethylene terephthalate (abbreviated as PET, PETE or formerly PETP, PET-P) is a thermoplastic plastic polymer resin of the polyester group. PET is widely produced in the chemical industry and is used in synthetic fibers, beverage bottles and food containers, thermoforming applications and combined with glass fibers in engineering resins. PET is also a raw material in the textile industry in the manufacture of fabrics. The need for PET is expected to continue to increase along with the increasing need for PET as a raw material in the manufacture of food and beverage wrappers and even for the textile industry. The polyethylene terephthalate plant is planned to operate for 330 days in 24 hours with a production capacity of 174,000 tons/year which will be established in the Serang Industrial Zone, Banten. The raw materials used in the design of this plant are ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid using the direct esterification process. The main equipment design in this plant design is the Esterification Reactor which functions to form BHET monomers as intermediate products. The esterification reactor operates at 250oC and 3 atm pressure. The economic analysis of this plant design concluded that the polyethylene terephthalate plant with direct esterification process is feasible to establish with a Return on Investment (ROI) value of 58,63%, Pay Out Period (POP) of 1,59 years and Break Even Point (BEP) of 44%.
