Pengaruh Variasi Penambahan Zinc Dithiophospate Terhadap Tingkat Oksidasi Dan Sifat Tribologi Pada Rbd Palm Olein Sebagai Bio-Based Lubricant Pada Temperatur Tinggi
ABSTRACT
Tribology is a science that focuses in friction, wear, and lubrication between two
asperities undergoing relative motion. Any friction occurred between base body
and contacy body may resulting some wear particles that detached from the two
asperities. To minimize the wear phenomenon, lubricants must be added between
the base body and the contact body. Lubrication in one method that is proven to
be effective to minimize friction and wear in a tribosystem. Base stock of a
lubricant consists of three broad categories, that is mineral oil, vegetable oil, and
synthetic oil. Usage of mineral oil and synthetic oil as the base stock of lubricants
may cause bad effects to the environment because of their toxicity and their nondegradable
nature. To reduce the usage of mineral oil and synthetic oil as the
base stock of lubricant, vegetable oil can be used. One example of vegetable oil
that can be used as the base stock of lubricants is palm oil. The palm oil fraction
that will be used in this study is RBD Palm Olein. Advantages of using palm oil as
the base stock of lubricants are their low prices, easy to find, degradable,
environmentally friendly, and renewable. Despite this, palm oil had bad stability
against oxidation. This could lead to bad lubrication properties. In this study,
ZDDP will be added to the lubricant as an additive. ZDDP is proven to be a very
good additive to a lubricant, as it could resist wear very well. The mixture
between RBDPO and ZDDP will be tested using the disc-on-disc tribometer
apparatus. The resuts obtained from this study are the 98% RBDPO – 2% ZDDP
variation yields the lowest wear rate, at 2,64891 x 10-5 mm3/Nm. Meanwhile, the
99% RBDPO – 1% ZDDP variation yields the highest wear rate, that has the
value of 3,64073 x 10-5 mm3/Nm.
