Persepsi Masyarakat Terhadap Serangan Gajah Liar Di Kecamatan Peranap Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu
Elephants are one of the protected species that feed mostly in forest areas. The increasing number of people who convert forest areas into plantations makes many elephants enter settlements / plantations. The research was conducted in Peranap District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, located in Semelinang darat and Pandan Wangi villages with the aim of knowing people's perceptions of wild elephants using purposive sampling method with the criteria of community informants who experienced the impact of wild elephant attacks with Likert scale analysis. From the results of the research that has been done there are as many as 14 questions regarding public perceptions of wild elephant prevention. The number of people who know that elephants are included in protected animals and need to be preserved according to the elephant community is very disruptive to community plantations and the community's economy. To overcome this impact, the community evicts elephants using spritus cannons and firecrackers, and there are also people who make elephant trenches. To plant plantations with plants that elephants do not like, many people disagree with the question due to lack of understanding in the management and marketing of these plants. The conclusion of this study is that the level of public perception of wild elephant attacks is very high with an average score of 83.5% from the two villages.
