ABSTRACT
Emotional control is where an individual is able to regulate in which situations certain emotions should or should not be expressed. Individuals who can be said to be able to control emotions are individuals who can exercise socially acceptable self-control, understand themselves and use critical mental abilities. Controlling students' emotions is something that is closely related to the parenting style given by parents, where parenting is an image that parents use to nurture, care for, look after and educate their children. There are 3 tendencies in parenting patterns, namely authoritarian parenting, permissive parenting and democratic parenting. Every parent has an important role in parenting to control their child's emotions, just like the students at SMP Negeri 25 Pekanbaru.
This research aims to find out how students control their emotions in terms of parenting patterns at SMP Negeri 25 Pekanbaru. This research is quantitative with a descriptive research type. The subjects of this research were all students in Class VII and VIII, of which class VII had 38 students and class VIII had 46 students. Data collection in this research was carried out through distributing emotional control questionnaires and parenting style questionnaires. analysis using the help of the SPSS Computer Program Version 17.0 For Windows.
The results of the research that has been carried out are that in general the level of emotional control of students at SMP Negeri 25 Pekanbaru is more dominant in the medium category, and the description of the parenting patterns of the students' parents is more dominant in the democratic parenting category, while students' emotional control in terms of parenting is more dominant. in the moderate category of control with democratic parenting.
