Sustainability Awareness Siswa SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru

ABSTRAK
Sustainability awareness is a sustainable awareness regarding the environment around students which must be developed as early as possible, especially in environmentally friendly schools such as SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru. However, habits such as littering, mixing organic and inorganic waste are examples of problems that are still often encountered. The level of sustainability awareness is very important for students to develop awareness of environmental aspects, so that students are able to apply these values in their lives.
The aim of this research is to determine the level of sustainability awareness of students, differences in sustainability awareness based on gender, and differences in sustainability awareness based on class level among students at SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru.
This research uses a descriptive research design with a quantitative approach and survey methods. The population of this research is all students of SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru in the 2022/2023 academic year, namely 1022 students. The number of samples was determined using the Yamane formula with a precision of 10% so that a sample of 91 students was obtained. Data was obtained through distributing questionnaires. The distribution of questionnaires was carried out randomly in the form of a Google form. Data analysis uses parametric statistics with the help of SPSS software.
The results of the research show that in the categories of awareness of sustainability practices and awareness of sustainability behavior and attitudes of students are classified as moderate, and only the category of emotional awareness of sustainability is classified as high, so that the overall level of sustainability awareness of students at SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru is classified as moderate. Based on gender, there is no difference between female and male students' sustainability awareness, although it appears that female students obtained a higher average than male students (Sig. > 0.05). The research results also show that there are significant differences in the level of students' sustainability awareness based on grade level (Sig. < 0.05).
Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded: (i) The level of sustainability awareness of students at SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru is classified as moderate. (ii) There is no difference in sustainability awareness between male and female students at SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru. (iii) There are significant differences based on class level among students at SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru.
Recommendations that can be put forward to students are to increase their awareness, especially in practice, understanding and behavior in accordance with sustainable principles. It is hoped that future researchers will be able to examine other factors that influence students' sustainability awareness. Apart from that, it can also carry out follow-up in the form of developing a product that can increase students' sustainability awareness, such as learning media.
