Quarter Life Crisis is a crisis state that involves anxiety about the direction and quality of life and is often experienced by individuals in their early twenties to mid-thirties, especially college students. Final students tend to experience QLC because they are in their twenties and mid-ties and are already thinking about their life goals after finishing education. Academic procedures require students to complete a final assignment as one of the requirements for achieving success at the Strata 1 level. However, in the process of completing the final assignment, students often experience various obstacles that often arise both internally and externally. These obstacles cause students to experience QLC in the process of completing their final assignment. QLC is closely related to self-awareness. Students who have good self-awareness can identify and understand themselves completely in terms of nature, character, emotions and feelings so that they are able to adapt to the crisis situation they are experiencing. QLC is also very closely related, with emotional intelligence students are able to control their emotions in various situations that are being experienced, especially QLC. The higher the student's level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence, the less likely the student is to experience QLC. Pre-survey data proves that Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University have the potential to experience QLC with several obstacles such as difficulty in finding references, meeting lecturers, collecting data, processing data and boredom due to repeated revisions. These obstacles prove that it is true that Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University experience QLC.
This research was carried out in May-July on Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University Classes of 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, where these four classes were in the process of completing their final assignments. This research uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. This research aims to determine the status of QLC as well as the level and characteristics of the relationship between self-awareness and emotional intelligence and QLC experienced by Biology Education students at FKIP, Riau University. The variables in this research include the independent variables (X1 and X2) and the dependent variable (Y). The independent variable (X1) in this research is Self-Awareness, (X2) Emotional Intelligence and the dependent variable (Y) is the Quarter Life Crisis experienced by Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University. The aim of this research is to see how self-awareness and emotional intelligence relate to QLC. By applying a quantitative approach and survey methods we can achieve this goal.
The research results show that the QLC status of Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University is mostly classified as MEDIUM. The highest QLC experienced by Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University was caused by feelings of excessive worry in the aspect of anxiety. Excessive worry about the results of writing being rejected and repeating the preparation of a thesis that has been planned results in students often feeling pessimistic and anxious about their thesis. The self-awareness of Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University is in the MEDIUM category with characteristics reflected in the aspects of emotional awareness, self-concept and openness. The level of emotional intelligence of Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University is in the MEDIUM category. This proves that some students have a fairly good level of emotional intelligence, where students are able to control, manage and be aware of their emotions when they are in a critical situation.
There is a strong relationship between self-awareness and QLC of Biology Education students at FKIP Riau University. However, there is a weak relationship between emotional intelligence and QLC. Meanwhile, the relationship between self-awareness and emotional intelligence and QLC simultaneously is moderate.
