21st century biology learning emphasizes the importance of mastering the 4C skills. Critical thinking skills are one of the important skills for students to have in the 21st century. Based on the results of pre-surveys conducted at several schools, namely SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru, SMA Negeri 8 Pekanbaru, and MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru, it is known that the learning process that occurs not yet optimal in training students' critical thinking skills. The low critical thinking skills of students are caused by students not being trained in critical thinking indicators. Apart from that, the teaching materials used in schools are still limited to textbooks, power points, learning videos and regular/printed Student Worksheets (LKPD). The LKPD used by schools still has several shortcomings and has not been designed in electronic form and the questions contained in the LKPD do not fully refer to indicators of critical thinking skills. Therefore, interesting and innovative teaching materials are needed, one of which is the use of electronic LKPD.
Based on the results of the pre-survey, it is known that virus material is one of the materials that is difficult for students to learn. This can be seen from the learning outcomes of students which are still relatively low. It is known that this difficulty is because viruses are abstract material so it is difficult to imagine what a virus actually looks like. Apart from that, in the learning process the teacher only lectures with presentation slides and the teacher has not maximized the use of innovative teaching materials. What can be done to overcome this problem is to provide more innovative teaching materials in the form of using electronic LKPD based on critical thinking skills on virus material.
This research was carried out on the campus of the Biology Education Study Program, FKIP, University of Riau, SMA Negeri 8 Pekanbaru, SMA Negeri 7 Pekanbaru and SMA Negeri 12 Pekanbaru. This research was carried out in September-November 2023. This type of research is R&D using the ADDIE development model which is limited to the development stage. The subject of this research is class X high school virus material. The instruments used to collect data were validation sheets and response questionnaires. Research data was collected by filling in validation sheets and response questionnaires.
Based on the results of data analysis, the average validation results for E-LKPD based on critical thinking skills based on 3 aspects were obtained, namely 3.83 with a very valid category. These three aspects include the content feasibility aspect with an average score of 3.85, the pedagogical aspect with an average score of 3.78 and the design aspect with an average score of 3.86. Based on the results of limited trial I, the developed E-LKPD obtained an average score of 3.83 in the very good category. In limited trial II, the developed E-LKPD obtained an average score of 3.67 in the very good category. So it can be concluded that based on the results of validation and limited trials, E-LKPD based on critical skills on virus material has been successfully developed and obtained a score of 3.79 which is categorized as very good quality so that it can be implemented in the learning process.
