Durabilitas Beton Campuran Abu Cangkang Telur Dengan Silika Fume Dalam Larutan Asam Sulfat
Eggshells are a waste that is generated in large quantities. In fact, eggshells have potential as a sustainable material in construction because they contain calcium carbonate which can increase the strength of concrete and reduce the use of cement. However, eggshells also have disadvantages, especially in terms of impermeability to water and aggressive substances. These weaknesses can be compensated by incorporating silica fume in the concrete mix to increase the resistance of concrete to water penetration and aggressive substances. The objective of this study was to assess the durability of concrete mixed with eggshell ash and silica fume in a sulfuric acid solution. To achieve this, eggshell ash and silica fume were used as partial replacements for cement, namely 5%, 10%, and 15% eggshell ash with 10% silica fume. The study consisted of testing the compressive strength, density, porosity, sorptivity, weight change, and visual appearance of concrete in a sulfuric acid solution for 0, 7, 28, and 56 days. The test results showed that the value of concrete compressive strength increased, density increased, porosity decreased, sorptivity decreased, and weight change decreased which was maximal with the use of 5% eggshell ash and 10% silica fume. Based on these test results, concrete mixed with 5% eggshell ash and 10% silica fume can increase the durability of concrete in aggressive environments because the impermeability and density of concrete increase.
