This research was motivated by the fact that based on information obtained from one of the Pancasila Education teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Sentajo Raya, Class the analysis. Many factors cause students' low critical thinking skills. One of them is the lack of precise learning models applied in the learning process.
Based on information obtained from one of the teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Sentajo Raya, it was stated that in the learning process the teacher applied the lecture method and often gave evaluation questions which did not lead to developing students' critical thinking skills. Apart from modifications to learning models, in the current digital era there is also a need to strengthen character. Based on research results from the World Economic Forum in the 2020 Future of Jobs report, there are four personal potentials that must be developed, namely self-manager, working with people, technology adaptation, and problem solving. Not only that, 4C skills are also really needed in the 21st century, namely Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Communication and Collaboration. Therefore, researchers are interested in research so that they can find out the effect of the problem based learning (PBL) model on students' critical thinking skills by going directly into the field and seeing real conditions in the field.
The problem formulation in this research is whether there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning model on the critical thinking skills of class XI students in the Pancasila Education subject at SMA Negeri 1 Sentajo Raya. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning model on the critical thinking skills of class XI students in the Pancasila Education subject at SMA Negeri 1 Sentajo Raya. The learning model is essentially the same as the form of learning plan that is organized and presented by the teacher. The learning model is the basis for implementing learning strategies, methods and techniques. This research can be used as guidance, consideration and reference for educators in an effort to optimize educational learning by using varied learning models such as Problem Based Learning in order to improve students' critical thinking skills.
This research is quantitative research with an experimental method, where the design used is Pretest-Posttest Control group Design. This research uses random sampling techniques in collecting the population and samples, and uses a homogeneity test to determine two classes, experimental and control. The population in this study was class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Sentajo Raya, totaling 86 people. The sample in this study consisted of 60 students, who were divided into two classes, namely class XI2 as the experimental class and XI3 as the control class.
The problem based learning (PBL) model has an influence on the critical thinking skills of class XI students in the Pancasila Education subject at SMA Negeri 1 Sentajo Raya. This is because the results of the data processing obtained tcount = 2,497 at a significance level of 5% obtained ttable = 1.671. This shows that the hypothesis in this study is accepted with tcount > ttable (Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected). This research also used the N-gain test to see the effectiveness of the treatment given. The experimental class N-Gain was obtained in the medium category with a score of 0.4129 and the control class obtained a score of 0.2694 in the low category. Based on the N-Gain results, it can be seen that the PBL model is more effective in improving students' critical thinking skills than using conventional models or lectures.
