ABSTRACT
Religion is a system of beliefs, values and spiritual practices generally related to life, existence and human relationships with what is considered sacred or holy. Religion is a belief that cannot be separated from the society that adheres to it. Parmalim as a local religious belief found in Rumbai District, Pekanbaru City lives among people with religious backgrounds recognized by the government. Believers like Parmalim can still be found in Indonesia even though the government only recognizes six major religions such as Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucianism. Parmalim remains firm in the teachings of his beliefs, even though the government does not recognize Parmalim as an official religion in Indonesia. The aim of this research is to find out how the belief system practiced by Parmalim believers in Rumbai District and to find out the factors that encourage Parmalim believers to adapt in Melayu land. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative research method. The subjects in this study were selected based on criteria previously determined by the author. To obtain information, researchers used observation techniques, in-depth interviews and documentation. The results of this research are that Parmalim has sacredness in carrying out ceremonial rituals on Marari Sabtu, every material and tool used has a very significant meaning to be offered to Debata Mulajadi Nabolon. Apart from that, the profane side is also present in carrying out the rituals of the Marari Sabtu ceremony as a form of politeness in social life and the use of clothing. The driving factor is also present in the life of Parmalim who are still able to survive and adapt in the land of Melayu, namely because there is a social culture that creates the customs and teachings of Hamalimon which become guidelines for Parmalim in everyday life and in the strong religious and social life that can make interactions between fellow Parmalim stronger. keywords: Batak Trible, Religion, Parmalim, Sacred, Profane
