Nilai Taksonomi Trikoma Pada Rhizoma Tumbuhan Paku Epifit Di Kawasan Universitas Riau
Trichomes are often found on epiphytic ferns, especially at the rhizome. Trichome characters plays an important role in taxonomic studies. This study aims to characterize trichomes at rhizomes of epiphytic ferns in the Riau University area. The sampling method used the exploration method. The trichome preparation process uses the incision method. Trichome preparations were observed using LCD microscope and olympus CX23 binocular microscope and documented with an optilab camera. The data obtained were presented in tables and figures and then descriptively analyzed. The results of the study found 15 species of epiphytic ferns in the Riau University area which are classified into five families namely Aspleniaceae, Davalliaceae, Nephrolepidaceae, Polypodiaceae and Pteridaceae. Epiphytic fern from the Polypodiaceae family is the most common fern in this study with a total of eight species. Observations on trichomes showed all of epiphytic fern species haves non glandular and multicellular cell type trichomes. The length of trichomes ranged from 44,2 µm to 1.010 µm. The shape of the trichomes found varied consisting of lanceolate, circular, linear, ovate-subulate and oblong-ovate shapes. The edges of the trichomes show two types entire and filiform. The characteristics of trichomes vary among 15 observed species of epiphytic ferns especially at the base, center and tip of the trichomes.
