Kemampuan Eceng Gondok (Eichhornia Crassipes (Mart.) Solms) Sebagai Fitoremediator Pada Limbah Cair Pabrik Pengolahan Kelapa Sawit
Liquid waste from palm oil processing factories is one of the wastes that has great potential in environmental pollution. The purpose of this research was to determine the ability of water hyacinth plants as phytoremediator at several concentrations of liquid waste from palm oil processing factories. The research used a Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments (effluent concentration: 30%, 70% and 100%) and control using distilled water media. The research was conducted for 30 days. The results showed that water hyacinth was able to increase the pH of the waste, but the results showed increase in Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) levels so that water hyacinth did not have potential as a phytoremediator in liquid waste from palm oil processing factories. Water hyacinth decreased in fresh biomass at all concentrations of liquid waste from palm oil processing factories.
Key findings: Liquid waste, palm oil processing factory, phytoremediation, water hyacinth.
