The Perception Of The Second Year English Study Program Students On Using Google Translate In Writing Assignments

This research discusses the use of Google Translate for writing assignments, focusing on students' perceptions. The intended demographic for this study consists of students enrolled in English language studies programs. The aim of this research is to determine the perception the second year of English Study Program students towards the use of Google Translate for writing assignments. Specifically, this research uses a descriptive quantitative method as its research
design to systematically describe the data collected. This research uses interviews and questionnaires as the main methods of data collection. Subsequently, the data were gathered and entered into SPSS and Microsoft Excel. Research has shown that 62.6% of English students have a positive opinion of Google Translate when using it for writing projects. The average of every item is used to determine this value. Item 13 displays 59% of the data, which is the median figure or percentage. The item with the highest score, item 3, received 71%. This means that the perception of the use of Google Translate among fourth-semester English students at Riau
University in writing assignments is positive. Despite participants stating that the writing process with Google Translate is only to expand vocabulary, they admit that Google Translate can help them in writing.
