Sintesis Katalis Cao Dari Cangkang Kerang Darah Terimpregnasi Sio2 (5%) Dari Sabut Kelapa Untuk Produksi Biodiesel Dari Bahan Baku Cpo
Crude Palm Oil (CPO) as a raw material for the synthesis of biodiesel has a high content of free fatty acid, when reacted with the catalyst CaO of the clam shell that is a strong base will form an emulsion and CaO also has a small surface area that requires modification. Therefore, added porous silica material from the coconut fiber can improve the acidity and surface area of the catalyst. The aim of this research is to synthesize 5% CaO-SiO2 catalyst through wet impregnation method. The catalyst CaO-SiO2 was characterized using the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method (BET), and the results show that the surface area of CaO was 1.227 m2g-1 and after modification SiO2 of 5% increased to 14.0823 m2g-1. XRD analysis results showed the presence of the mineral portlandite (Ca(OH)2). Percentage of CaO present in the 5% CaO-SiO2 catalyst through XRF analysis was 95.651% and the percentage of SiO2 is 2.426%. That the CaO content decreased with increasing SiO2 content in the catalyst. FTIR analysis showed the presence of O-H, C-H, Si-O-H, Si-O-Si, and CaO groups. The resulting catalyst was used for biodiesel production through a transesterification reaction from raw materials Crude Palm Oil (CPO) performed with catalyst weight variations of 1, 2, and 3 g (%w/w) as well as catalyst and methanol reaction time of 60, 90, and 120 minutes. Based on the research results, the optimal biodiesel yield was obtained using a 5% CaO-SiO2 catalyst with catalytic weight of 1 % (w/w), reaction time catalyst and metanol 120 minutes with a biodiesel yield of 95.99%. The characteristics of biodiesel produced from 5% CaO-SiO2 catalyst have a water content, specific gravity, viscosity, and carbon residue which were in accordance with the requirements of SNI 7182-2015 except for the acid number test. The results of analysis with GC-MS showed that the purity biodiesel on the 5% CaO-SiO2 catalyst was 97.44%.
