ABSTRACT
Lanjut Village Fishermen are traditional fishermen who still use net fishing gear. The change in seasons puts fishermen under challenging conditions so fishermen have to adapt to their work and restore the economy of fishermen's households. The aim of the research is to determine work adaptations and efforts to restore the needs of fishing households in the Lanjut Village fishing community by using James Scott's theory of subsistence ethics. The purposive sampling technique is used to determine informants. The subjects in the research were seven people consisting of three tenggiri fishermen and four tamban fishermen, who had their own fleet and fishing equipment, worked without crew members, and had been fishing for at least ten years. The results of the research show that there are differences in work adaptation between tenggiri fishermen and tamban fishermen. For tenggiri fishermen, expanding the fishing area, shortening the fishing time, fishing in groups, and gardening are essential. Meanwhile, tamban fishermen are diversifying their work, adding and improving types of fishing gear, and, likewise, making efforts to restore the fishermen's economy during the transition of seasons. Tenggiri fishermen do not apply the ethics of utilizing social relationship networks. Meanwhile, tamban fishermen apply all the ethics, namely utilizing networks of social relations, tying their belts tighter, and using alternative subsistence
