Natural resources are the earth's wealth which have an important role in people's lives. There are many types of natural resources in Indonesia, one of which is natural resources in the mining sector. Indonesia is one of the countries that has the largest production and reserves of mining materials in the world. The aim of this research is to find out the background of the villagers who work as sand miners and to find out the response of the sand miners in Redang Village to continue working in sand mining. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. The research subjects in this study were the head of Redang Village, the head of the related hamlet, the sand mine owner, the sand mine workers. The location of the research was in Redang Village, West Rengat District, Indragiri Hulu Regency. The results of this research show a picture of different backgrounds in terms of economics, education and economics. The response from sand mining workers is that this mining prioritizes economic profits, but on the other hand, it pays little attention to environmental impacts.
