Prarancangan Pabrik Asam Tereftalat Proses Amoco Dengan Desain Alat Utama Rotary Dryer (Dr-201)
ABSTRACT
Terephthalic acid is an organic compound that is commonly used as a raw material for making polyester terephthalate, polyester filament yarn, and polyester staple fiber, and is also used to produce polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Demand for terephthalic acid is increasing along with industrial development, especially the plastics and textile industries. The use of PET is usually found in plastic containers for drinks, food, electronic devices, clothing, home textiles, carpets, industrial fiber production, audio and video recording cassettes as well as photographic films and labels. Terephthalic acid is produced through the oxidation process of paraxylene by oxygen with a capacity of 250,000 tons/year. The oxidation reaction takes place at a temperature of 200°C and a pressure of 16 atm. The production process consists of four parts, namely preparation of raw materials, formation of terephthalic acid through the oxidation process, separation, and purification and recycling of solvents. One of the main equipment needed in a terephthalic acid factory is a rotary dryer which is used for the product drying process. The economic analysis of the plant shows an ROI value of 21.84%, PBP of 4.58 years, IRR of 25.18%, and BEP in the 4th year. Based on the results of this economic analysis, it can be concluded that the Amoco process terephthalic acid plant is feasible to establish.
