"Prarancangan Pabrik Metil Fenil Keton (Asetofenon) Proses Carbide-Mobil/Badger Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Alkilasi Benzena (R-101)"
ABSTRACT
Indonesia has exported ten shipments of acetophenone through three suppliers to various countries, including China, Japan, and Singapore. However, Indonesia still imports acetophenone from several countries due to insufficient domestic supply. This situation presents a significant opportunity to establish a local plant to meet domestic demand and compete with international producers from China, India, and Germany. The global market for acetophenone was valued at US$ 219 million in 2021 and is projected to grow from 2022 to 2032. The acetophenone (methyl phenyl ketone) market is expected to grow at a significant rate because acetophenone is commonly used as a precursor for various compounds. The demand for acetophenone is anticipated to increase with the rising demand for perfumes, soaps, lotions, and other cosmetic products. Acetophenone is produced through the Carbide-Mobil/Badger Process. The Mobil/Badger Process aims to produce ethylbenzene via the alkylation reaction of benzene, which is then oxidized to acetophenone through the Carbide Process. The objective of this plant pre-design is to meet domestic acetophenone demand, save foreign exchange, and create new jobs to reduce unemployment. The plant is planned to be located in the Cilegon Industrial Area, Banten, with a production capacity of 15,000 tons per year, utilizing an alkylation reactor (R-101) as the main equipment. Economic feasibility analysis indicates that the acetophenone plant is viable, with a Payback Period (PBP) of 1.16 years, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 43.82%, a Return on Investment (ROI) of 85.94%, and a Break-Even Point (BEP) of 51%.
