"Prarancangan Pabrik Ethylene Oxide Dan Ethylene Glycols Dari Ethanol Proses Scientific Design Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Oksidasi Etilena (R-102)"

ABSTRACT
Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, low-viscosity organic compound that makes the liquid hygroscopic. Ethylene glycol is used to add fiber to polyester, PET containers, antifreeze and coolant to engines in all weather conditions. In Indonesia, there are not many ethylene glycol factories or producers so that imports are made to meet the needs. Therefore, ethylene glycol processing is needed in order to meet the needs of ethylene glycol in Indonesia. The plant is planned to be located in Pakuhaji sub-district, Tangerang city, Banten province. The production capacity of this plant is 50,000 tons/year.
The plant design of ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol from ethanol uses a scientific design process with ethanol as raw material and Zsm-5 catalyst. Ethanol is obtained from PT Molindo Raya. The scientific design process consists of three processes. The first process is ethanol dehydration with Zsm-5 catalyst in a multitube fixed bed reactor to produce ethylene. The ethanol dehydration reaction takes place in the gas phase, operating at 1 atm pressure and 200 ˚C temperature. The second process is the oxidation between ethylene and oxygen with a silver catalyst in a multitube fixed bed reactor to produce ethylene oxide. The oxidation reaction takes place in the gas phase with a temperature of 200-300 ℃ and a pressure of 10-30 bar. The third process is the hydrolysis process between ethylene oxide and water with a silver catalyst in a multitube fixed bed reactor to produce ethylene glycol. The hydrolysis reaction takes place in the gas phase at 110°C and 10 atm pressure. The molar ratio of water: ethylene oxide in the feed stream is about 30:1 to about 20:1. The result of the hydrolysis process is ethylene glycol with 90% purity and by-products in the form of water, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol and tetraethylene glycol which will be treated in the waste treatment unit. Water needs for the production process, sanitation water, cooling water and boiler feed are obtained from anyer bay. Electricity supply can be obtained from PT PLN Persero and generators. Waste generated from this plant is liquid waste derived from cooling water waste and domestic liquid waste.
The planned form of the company is a Limited Liability Company (PT) using a line and staff organization system with 330 working days/year. Labor needs to run this company amounted to 195 people divided into 123 shift employees and 72 non- shift employees. The profitability analysis shows a Net Present Value (NPV) of Rp 940,031,637,611, Return on Investment (ROI) of 29.44%, Payback Period (PBP) of
3.01 years, and Break Even Point (BEP) at 50% production capacity. From the economic analysis of the plant, it can be concluded that the plant is feasible with a stable market position and a medium level of investment risk.
