Preliminary Design of Propylene Oxide Plant Using Epoxidation Process With
The Main Equipment Design of Propylene Oxide Distillation Column (T-401)
Propylene oxide is a compound used as a reaction intermediate in the production
of polyether polyol, propylene glycol, ether glycol and ethylene glycol. Supply for
propylene oxide in Indonesia is by importing from Germany, Singapore, Japan
and China. Until now, no propylene oxide factory has been established in
Indonesia. In order to meet the demand for propylene oxide, a propylene oxide
plant with a capacity of 60,000 tons per year was designed to be established in the
Indramayu area. The chosen company structure is a Limited Liability Company
(PT) with a line and staff organizational system. Propylene oxide is made from
propylene and hydrogen peroxide by an epoxidation process. The main equipment
design of this plant is a propylene oxide distillation column (T-401). Economic
analysis of the preliminary of the propylene oxide plant shows that this factory is
feasible to establish with a Net Present Value (NPV) of IDR 850,933,289,032
which is greater than the Total Capital Investment (TCI) of IDR 350,567,156,203.
Break Event Point (BEP) value is 50%, Pay Back Period (PBP) is 2.49 years,
Rate of Investment (ROI) is 55.61% and Interest Rate of Return (IRR) is 22.78%.
