Status Sosial Laki-Laki Pada Tradisi Bajapuik Adat Perkawinan Masyarakat Pariaman Di Kecamatan Mandau Kabupaten Bengkalis

Marriage is one of the stages in human life. As social creatures, humans are required to have partners of the opposite sex to obtain legal offspring in marriage for the sake of human survival on earth. The Minangkabau people also have different customs and traditions regarding marriage customs. The Minangkabau people in the Pariaman area have a distinctive tradition before a marriage is held called the "bajapauik" or "picking up" tradition. Bajapuik is seen as the obligation of the woman's family to pay her future husband an amount adjusted to the man's social status. The Pariaman community in overseas areas has an organized association called the Pariaman Regional Family Association or called PKDP. The Pariaman community in Mandau District has a family association called PKDP Ranting Duri. There are differences in the implementation of traditions in the area of origin and also in overseas areas which are influenced by internal and external factors of the Pariaman community itself. The aim of the research is to find out what determines the social status of men in the Bajapuik customary marriage of the Pariaman community. To determine the influence of men's social status on the amount of money taken and money lost in the Bajapuik tradition of marriage customs of the Pariaman community in Mandau District. This research was carried out with a descriptive qualitative approach using purposive sampling techniques. In this study the researcher took 7 informants as subjects in the research related to the formulation studied by the researcher. Through observation, interviews, and documentation, researchers succeeded in finding and obtaining data regarding the meaning of Bajapuik, the meaning of Bajapuik, the amount of japuik money, and the meaning of social status according to the Pariaman community in Mandau District, Bengkalis Regency.
