This research is motivated by an interest in the collective efforts of the Kenegerian Petapahan customary law community to protect the Imbo Putui prohibition forest. The forest is a symbol of custom and is included in the customary area upheld by the local community. The community's socio-cultural system is able to realize good forest management and maintain its existence until it gains state recognition.
The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze the social capital found in the indigenous people of Kenegerian Petapahan in the context of maintaining and managing the Imbo Putui forest. This research used a qualitative approach. The research subjects were selected by purposive sampling. Primary data were obtained directly through interviews with the research subjects, while secondary data were processed and accessed in the form of reports, journals, and other documents. At the end, all data collected from the interviews will be analyzed qualitatively, consisting of data reduction, presentation and conclusion drawing.
The results of this study found that elements of social capital can provide positive benefits for the indigenous people of Petapahan Village to manage the Imbo Putui forest. They have a strong sense of trust with traditional leaders, religious leaders and village government officials. This trust is based on the similarity of tribes and ancestors, as well as the ability of the leaders to meet community expectations. Meanwhile, social norms arise from the awareness of protecting the forest for the future. They base themselves on customary interests and religious teachings to protect everything on earth as a form of worship. Existing elements of social capital must be strengthened and actively supported by the parties in the form of implementing norms and maintaining social networks.
