Pengaruh Pelapisan Benih Dan Lama Penyimpanan Terhadap Mutu Fisiologis Benih Kakao (Theobroma cacao L.)
This study aims to obtain the right cocoa seed coating material and better storage duration in maintaining the physiological quality of seeds. The research was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 2 factors. The first factor is the application of coating material, consisting of no coating, coating with PEG 6000 at 10% concentration, and coating with CMC at 1% concentration. The second factor is the length of storage, consisting of 7 days and 14 days of storage. Based on the number of factors and types of treatments studied, six treatment combinations were obtained where each treatment consisted of three replicates, thus 18 experimental units were obtained. The total seeds used in this study were 635 seeds. Each experimental unit used 35 seeds, 30 seeds for germination testing and 5 seeds for seed moisture content testing. The remaining 5 seeds were used for testing the initial seed moisture content. The results showed that the application of cocoa seed coating material and 7 days of storage can maintain seed moisture content during storage, germination, and vigor index. Cocoa seed coating with PEG 6000 at 10% concentration can maintain the physiological quality of seeds until 14 days of storage. Coating cocoa seeds with 1% concentration of CMC or without coating material is only able to maintain physiological quality until 7 days storage and experience a decrease in physiological quality at 14 days storage.
