Rancang Bangun Optical Power Meter Berbasis Mikrokontroler Untuk Mendukung Rangkaian Test Bed Fiber To The Home (FTTH)
The development of fiber optic network technology requires accurate, practical, and efficient measurement tools to monitor the performance of optical signals. This research proposes the design of a microcontroller-based Optical Power Meter (OPM) using an SFP sensor to detect optical signal power at wavelengths of 1310 nm and 1550 nm. The OPM is equipped with an LCD screen to display measurement results and LED indicators to categorize signal status into low, medium, and high. The system aims to provide a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to commercial OPMs, while also enhancing the ease of field measurements for technicians. A manual calibration feature is also implemented to maintain measurement accuracy, with tests conducted by comparing the results between the microcontroller-based OPM and a standard commercial OPM. Calibration results show that the microcontroller-based OPM produces sufficiently accurate measurements with minimal deviation at certain frequencies and modulations. Thus, this device is expected to serve as an effective solution for optical signal monitoring in various fiber optic network scenarios.
