Pengaruh Konsentrasi Naoh Terhadap Karakteristik Pulp Dari Bambu Kuning(Bambusa Vulgaris)
ABSTRACT
An evaluation was conducted to determine the effect of various NaOH
concentrations on the pulp characteristics of Bambusa vulgaris, which has long
fibres, thin walls, and great potential as an alternative raw material for non-wood
pulp. The pulping process used the closed soda method with 13%, 18%, and 23%
NaOH concentrations at 170°C for two hours. Parameters observed included pulp
yield, kappa number, degree of crystallinity, and chemical component analysis.
The results showed that yellow bamboo has a fibre length of 2779.12 μ, including
class I fibre category. The 23% NaOH concentration gave the best results with
the lowest lignin content of 1.11%, kappa number of 36.79, and the highest pulp
yield of 40.02%. Despite requiring more chemicals than wood feedstock, yellow
bamboo has fibre characteristics and chemical components that support its use in
the pulp and paper industry. Conclusions suggest yellow bamboo has great
potential as a quality pulp feedstock, with the need for process optimisation to
improve chemical efficiency and production yields.
