Kearifan Lokal Masyarakat Dalam Mitigasi Bencana Kebakaran Lahan Gambut Di Desa Tanjung Belit Kecamatan Siak Kecil Kabupaten Bengkalis
Peatland fires are a recurring threat every year in Riau Province, including in Tanjung Belit Village, Siak Kecil District, Bengkalis Regency. Based on the 2023 data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry on forest and land fires, 1,322.79 hectares of land were burned, including in Tanjung Belit Village. The impact of this disaster extends to affecting environmental, social, and economic aspects, so appropriate mitigation measures are needed. The purpose of this study is to determine: 1) To describe the form of local wisdom applied by the community in mitigating peatland fires. 2) To analyze efforts to preserve the local wisdom of the community in mitigating peatland fires. This study used qualitative research methods. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The subjects were selected using purposive sampling, and the study involved eight participants consisting of traditional leaders, village government officials, and local community members. The results indicate that: 1 Local wisdom in peatland fire mitigation is primarily focused on water management through canal blocking systems. Additionally, a common local practice is Memerun (controlled burning). This activity involves gathering plant debris from cutting or clearing vegetation into a single spot, surrounding the area with ditches, and carrying out burning when the weather is not hot, wind intensity is low, and the process is monitored collectively through Gotong Royong (mutual cooperation). The study emphasizes that integrating local wisdom into disaster mitigation has had a positive impact on reducing the incidence of forest and peatland fires in the study area. This success is further reinforced by strong community solidarity through the Gotong Royong culture. 2) Efforts to preserve local wisdom are carried out through cross-generational socialization, fire mitigation training, and collaboration with village institutions such as the Disaster Care Community (MPB). Other efforts include involving traditional and religious leaders.
