Optimasi Penggunaan Bahan Kimia Pada Instalasi Pengolahan Air Minum Menggunakan Response Surface Methodology

ABSTRACT
The Siak River, as one of the primary raw water sources in Pekanbaru City, faces challenges due to high color levels influenced by peat surrounding the river flow. This condition presents a significant challenge in the water treatment process to produce clean water that meets established quality standards. This study aims to determine the optimal chemical dosages for drinking water treatment using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with the jar test method. A Central Composite Design (CCD) with 30 experimental runs was developed to identify the optimal doses of coagulant (PACl), flocculant (polymer), chlorine, and CSI. The results indicated that the raw water quality varied, with color levels ranging from 266 to 500 PtCo, turbidity from 22.3 to 45.8 NTU, and pH from 6.18 to 6.54. The optimum chemical dosages determined were PACl at 50–60 mg/L, polymer at 0.2–0.3 mg/L, chlorine at 2–2.18 mg/L, and CSl at 7.44–8.84 mg/L, with a desirability value ranging from 0.813 to 1. The contributions of each chemical to the final water quality parameters were also analyzed. PACl showed a significant contribution to color reduction, ranging from 0–23.37%, and to turbidity, ranging from 0.22–24.67%. For pH, PACl exhibited a moderately significant contribution, ranging from 0.93–11.59%. Polymer had a significant contribution to turbidity, ranging from 0–10.4%, but no significant contribution to color or pH. Chlorine contributed significantly to color, ranging from 1.49–16.06%, and to turbidity, ranging from 0.75–11.23%. CSl significantly contributed to pH, ranging from 3.77–43.91%, but showed no significant contribution to color or turbidity. The contributions to final water parameters were also influenced by the interactions and quadratic effects between the chemical components.
