ABSTRACT
Salicylic acid has the chemical structure C7H6O3, is crystalline, white in color, has a sweet taste and is stable in free air. Salicylic acid and its derivatives are chemicals that are quite important in daily use. In the pharmaceutical field, salicylic acid is used as an analgesic, antipyretic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiproliferative and cytotoxic agent. In the field of cosmetics, the use of salicylic acid as a substance that can prevent acne and can remove excess dead skin cells produced by the epidermis layer which can increase the ability of these cosmetics by reducing intercellular thickness and causing skin peeling. In the agricultural sector, salicylic acid can be used as an inducer for rice plants against bacterial leaf blight. The world's need for salicylic acid increases by 2% per year every year.
The salicylic acid factory will be established in Indramayu City, West Java. This factory will be established with a production capacity of 15,000 tons/year. The utilities required are 165,708.882 kg/hour and electricity requirements reach 89.9149 kW. The waste produced from the process of making salicylic acid is estimated at 3312.3481 L/day. The waste will be processed in waste processing units to meet good environmental standards.
The results of the economic analysis with a total TCI of IDR 1.950.958.218.394, TPC of IDR 877.382.136.783 and WCI of IDR 292.643.732.759. Income from sales of products from this salicylic acid factory is IDR 877.382.136.783 /year. From the profitability analysis, the NPV value was obtained with a discount rate of IDR 3.049.429.837.115, an IRR rate of return of 20,12%, BEP occurring at a production capacity of 34.41% and PBP of 2.1%. The results of this profitability analysis show that a salicylic acid factory is feasible to establish and is a profitable investment.
