EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Rancangan Pabrik Chloroacetic Acid Proses Chlorination-Hydrogenation Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Klorinasi Asam Asetat (R-101)
ABSTRACT
Chloroacetic acid has the molecular formula ClCH2COOH is a compound in the form of a colourless or transparent crystalline solid with hygroscopic properties, which absorbs water from its environment. Chloroacetic acid is produced from the chemical reaction between acetic acid and clorine gas as the main ingredient with anhydrous acetate as a catalyst, this product is obtained through the clorination-hydrogenation process. The 2022 market growth of global chloroacetic acid reached USD 1371,5 million while by 2032 it is estimated to reach USD 2084,4 milion with the highest Coumpound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR)of 4,2% between 2023 and 2032. In Indonesia, it is currently difficult to find industries that produce chloroacetic acid, because this industry is generally controlled by multinational companies or through imports, which causes Indonesia to have a great opportunity to develop the chloroacetic acid industry.
The location of the plant is planned to be in Gerem, Purwakarta Disstrict, Cilegon City, Banten Province, Indonesia with a production capacity of 15000 tonnes/year, the establishment of a chloroacetic acid plant is expected to meet domestic needs and reduce import dependence. The choroacetic acid plant requires utilities in the form of domestic water of 7188,985 kg/hour, cooling water needs of 30.086,336 kg/hour, hydrant water of 395,393 kg/hour, process water of 546,924 kg/hour, steam of 2.098,256 kg/hour with a total clean water needs of 63.097,261 kg/hour chloroacetic acid plant with electric power of 63,0978 kW. The factory waste is treated using the activated sludge process.
The designed plant show the results of economic analysis with a total capitas investment (TCI) of Rp 147.378.584.416, manufacturing cost of Rp 178.022.417.237 and working capital (WC) of Rp 22.106.787.662, the produced are sold at a price of Rp 286.259.910.557 per year. From the profitability analysis, a net present value (NPV) of Rp 359.807.093.513, an at 40% production capacity, and a payback period (BP) of 3,22 years. Based on these results, the chloroacetic acid plant design is considered feasible and a profitable investment.
