Penilaian kualitas air sungai pengambang kecamatan rumbai timur kota pekanbaru menggunakan nsf-woi
Periodic assessment of river water quality is important because rivers are one of the water sources that are widely used by humans to meet their needs. Human activities in the watershed encourage a decrease in river water quality starting from household activities, plantations, and so on can produce waste that can adversely affect and pollute the river. National Sanitation Foundation-Water Quality Index (NSF-WQI) is one of the most effective methods to inform river water quality. This research was conducted in one of the Siak River tributaries in Pekanbaru City to assess river water quality using NSF-WQI. In this study, water samples were collected from three locations namely upstream, middle, and downstream of Pengambang River from April to June 2024. The collected samples were analyzed with 9 water quality parameters: Temperature, TSS, Turbidity, pH, DO, BOD5, Nitrate, Total Phosphate, and Fecal Coliform. The NSF-WQI method was used to assess the water quality of the Pengambang River by comparing the sub-index functional curve with the parameter values. Guidelines for water quality indicators use class II water quality standards (PP 22/2021) for water recreation infrastructure or facilities, freshwater fish farming, animal husbandry, water for irrigating crops. The NSF-WQI results show that the Pengambang River water is classified as a medium water quality criterion with values ranging from 51,03 – 60,28. Pollution of the Pengambang River is caused by BOD5 values ranging from 6.1 - 11.3 mg/L and Fecal Coliform ranging from 1307 - 8733 MPN/100 ml which have exceeded class II quality standards. This indicates that the upstream to downstream Pengambang River receives untreated waste discharges due to anthropogenic activities along the watershed. Therefore, efforts to protect and improve and maintain river water quality must be made.
