Pengaruh Peningkatan Jumlah Konsumsi Rokok Terhadap Peningkatan Dosis Haloperidol Pada Pasien Skizofrenia Rawat Inap Di Rumah Sakit Jiwa Tampan Pekanbaru
Cigarette smoking increases haloperidol metabolism so that the doses of
haloperidol should be increased to enhance potential theraupeutic effect. Nicotine
in cigarette reduces the side effects of extrapyramidal symptoms caused by
haloperidol so that number of cigarette consumed increased with increasing doses
of haloperidol. The aim of this study was to determined the influence of increasing
cigarettes number consumption in increasing of haloperidol doses in
schizophrenic patients hospitalized at Rumah Sakit Jiwa Tampan. This study was
crosssectional design and the subject were schizophrenic patients who
hospitalized in Melati and Merpati room from June to September 2010 using
interview technique with the result of Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE)
≥ 24 before. Through 50 samples, 14 samples (28%) had increased the number of
cigarettes ≤ 5 and 36 samples (72%) had increased the number of cigarettes >5.
Statistical analysis showed the value of p= 0,000. This study concluded, there
was a significant influence of increasing cigarettes number consumption in
increasing doses of haloperidol in schizophrenic patient hospitalized at Rumah
Sakit Jiwa Tampan, Pekanbaru.
