The background of this research is the lack of interest in reading children caused by conditions that do not support families, especially from parents of children who lack exemplifies the hobby of reading to their children in addition to his lack of attention and supervision of their parents toward their children during the activity of learning activities in terms of aspects disekolahyang joy, interest, concern and involvement of children in reading. The purpose of this study was to determine the interest in reading in children. The study was a descriptive comparative and correlative nature. Data collection tool that is used in the form of observations made at the beginning of the study and at the research took place from each respondent. The number of samples in this study were 30 children consisting of 17 male children and 13 female children. Based on the results obtained from the child obseravasi less interested in reading. For preference indicator reading is obtained on average 64%, ketertariakan 71%, 65% interest, 60% involvement. From the research the average reading of the indicator 65% of children with sufficient category. From the results of these studies it was concluded that the most dominant in the child's interest in reading is due to lack of involvement aspect of parents who exemplifies penchant reading to children and the lack of parental care and supervision of the activities of the child it is this which causes low reading interest of children aged 5-6 years in the Housing Graha Pekanbaru Mustamindo Permai.
