Infeksi Protozoa Usus Oportunistik Dan Faktor Risikonya Pada Petugas Sampah Di Tempat Pembuangan Akhir Muara Fajar Kecamatan Rumbai Pekanbaru
Opportunisticintestinalprotozoan(OIP) is a protozoan that can infect human body and cause clinical symptoms, especially in individuals with uncompromised immune system. Formerly, this infection is not significant, but now it is widely distributed across the world especially in tropical countries. The most common OIPthat can infect an individual areCryptosporidium sp., Cyclosporacayetanensis (C.cayetanensis), Isospora belli (I.belli) and Blastocystishominis (B.hominis). Objective of this study was todetermine the opportunisticintestinalprotozoan infections and its risk factors among garbage workers in MuaraFajarlandfillRumbai districtPekanbaru. This study used cross sectional with analytical methods. It was conducted from April to November, 2016. The subjects were 33 garbage workers. Results from modified Ziehl-Neelsen stainingshowed 12.1% garbage workerswere infected by opportunisticintestinalprotozoan, with the most common infection wasdue to Cryptosporidium spas many as 6.1% and3% each for I. belli and B.hominis. There were noC.cayetanensis infection. There was no correlation between opportunisticintestinalprotozoan infection with poor hygiene habits such as poor hand washing, poor bowel habits, lack of protective equipments use,poor eating hygiene, drinking untreated water, owning pets and poor handling of vegetables.
