Penentuan Miscibiliti Sistem Serbuk Pelepah Sawit – Polipropilen Dengan Menggunakan Metode Flory - Huggins
Miscibility initial studies are are required to obtain miscibiliti palm dust frond-polypropylene (SPS-PP). The main idea by reseach to estimate miscibility (mixed ability) SPS-PP system based on the free energy of mixing calculated by the Flory-Huggins equation. Solubility parameter and molar volume calculated by Van Krevelen and Group Contribution Volume (GCVol) methods. The research used simulation with SPS-PP ratio of 0,1:99, 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, 50:50, 60:40, 70:30, 80:20, 90:10 and 100:0. The simulated temperature are 170°C, 180°C and 190°C.
As a result there is an interaction between molecules (χ) on SPS-PP system. Highest interaction occurs at the temperature of 170°C with FH value are 1475,45. In the simulation system SPS-PP miscibility obtained the similiar trend at various temperatures with free positive energy of mixing (ΔG) with 190°C as the closest negative value with SPS-PP persentage of 10% that is equal to 39,68 cal/mol. This show SPS-PP miscibility under these conditions are low molecular. Thermal testing using DSC suggest the addition of SPS causes melting point to increase. From the morphological examination using SEM it can be seen that SPS-PP system is not fully misible, only is intervened the components. This research that miscibility SPS-PP system is only component and need further treatment to the raw materials that could potentially be a good quality composite.
