Pembuatan Pulp Dari Rumput Perimping Dengan Pelarut Organik Asam Formiat
Organosolv pulping is the process of pulp making using organic solution. Utilization of perimping grass is still very limited. Perimping grass (Themeda gigantea) is a lignocellulosic biomass, so it can be a raw material for pulp production that be valuable products. The objectives of this research is to obtain the characteristics of pulp (yield, cellulose content, lignin content, bursting index, tearing index, and tensile index) of perimping grass processed with formic acid. Influences of the operaing variables were studied by Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with Central Composite Design (CCD). The result of data analysis using STATISTICA 12.5. Pulp making was performed on atmospheric conditions with 40 grams of perimping grass using formic acid (concentrations of 60%, 70%, and 80%), reaction time (60 minutes, 120 minutes, and 180 minutes), liquid to solid ratio (10/1, 15/1 , and 20/1 b/b), with HCl catalyst 0.1% wt. The values obtained for each response, that is pulp yield = 43.05-61.84%, cellulose content = 83.56-93.10%, lignin content = 3-15%, bursting index = 22-184.36 kPa m2/g, tearing index = 187-660 mN m2/g, dan tensile index = 659.3-2,149 N m/g.
