Efek Antibakteri Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) Terhadap Bakteri Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Penyebab Otitis Media Supuratif Kronik (OMSK) Secara In Vitro
The most common cause of Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) is Pseudomonas aeruginosa. These bacteria have a lot of resistance to synthetic antibiotics, therefore we need to look for other alternative antimicrobials from natural materials that available in our country. One of them is Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO). VCO is made from freshly coconut meat that processed without refining (bleacing and deodorizing), and with little heating process. Lately research on the antibacterial effects of VCO has begun to develop and not only a few studies prove that the VCO has antibacterial, antiviral and anti fungal effects. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effect of VCO on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The test of this study used Kirby Bauer test by measuring the diameter of clear zone that formed from each VCO concentration. The result showed the average diameter of the highest clear zone was at 25% concentration. Thus, this study showed that the VCO has an antibacterial effect.
