Pembuatan Dan Karakterisasi Elektroda Karbon Superkapasitor Dari Bunga Rumput Gajah
Preparation and characterization of carbon electrodes from elephant grass flower have been successfully carried out. The preparation of carbon electrodes was begun with a pre-carbonization, grinding by a ball milling intrument and followed by sieving process. Variations in particle size was selected were : (a) smaller than 38 μm (SA) and (b) 39 μm up to 52 μm (SB). All samples were chemically activated with an activator of NaOH at a concentration of 0,4 M. The two variations of this sample molded into pellets form with a pressure of 8 metricton. Carbonization process was carried out at a temperature of 600°C in an N2 gas atmosphere and continued with physical activation process using CO2 gas at a temperature of 850°C. The characterization was conducted on the physical properties and electrochemical properties such as density, degree of crystallographic analysis, specific surface area and specific capacitance. The physical parameters such as mass, diameter and thickness of the activated carbon electrode were collected in a condition of (i) prior to carbonization, (ii) after carbonization and (iii) after the physical activation that aims to get a density. The density results indicates that the SA sample has a density value of (i) 1,075 g/cm3, (ii) 0,812 g / cm3, (iii) 0,730 g / cm3 and SB (i) 1,073 g /cm3, (ii) 0,763 g/cm3 and (iii) 0,607 g/cm3. The degree of crystallographic analysis results showed the appearance of two carbon peaks with a crystal orientation (002) and (100) at an angle 2θ in the range of 24° and 44° for the two samples. Results of the adsortion of N2 gas analysis showed that the surface area of the SA and SB were 607,437 × 104 cm²/g and 956,362 × 104 cm²/g. While the specific capacitance for the two samples SA and SB were 86,811 F/g and 121,069 F/g, respectively.
